Stick Your Neck Out
A few years ago we had a volunteer celebration party at the Community Center…honoring an extraordinary volunteer complete with plaque, flowers, balloons, food and speeches….we love speeches. The speech was given by Lyman Randall….and I never forgot it. I don’t remember the details but I do recall how a giraffe is an epitome of a great volunteer.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS HAVE BIG HEARTS.
The giraffe’s heart is huge; it weighs 25 pounds, is 2 feet long, and has walls up to 3 inches thick.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS LEAVE BIG SHOES TO FILL.
Giraffe’s footprints are 12 inches in length and 9 inches wide.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS ARE EFFICIENT AT THEIR WORK.
Giraffe’s are fast and can reach speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS CELEBRATE DIVERSITY.
At a given moment, a giraffe may be in a herd composed of males, females, young, old, and both sexes. There is no one true herd leader.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS ARE DEDICATED AND WORK HARD.
Giraffes rarely lay down; they sleep 2 hours in a 24 hour period and give birth standing up.
ALL GREAT VOLUNTEERS LOOK BEYOND THE TREES.
The giraffe is the world’s tallest animal.
We have some of the very best volunteers here at the Center and we could not be this successful without them. Our hearts are full of gratitude for each and everyone of you. To volunteer please contact Dee Wheeler at 941-964-2564
